Teaching Irish Dance

3 photos a day for 2010 (0226) ?Reflection?

I've been helping out with some Beginner/Novice Classes at the Shelley school. For the most part I'm used as an example, but once in a while Tina hands some of the dancers over to me to break down a dance that the majority has already picked up.

It's definitely a new challenge for me. I'm used to working on an equal level with everyone I associate with, so stepping up as the leader, counting out loud, etc is a step out of my comfort zone. I know I'll get the hang of it, but it kind of hits you like, woah! They're all looking at me, waiting for me to tell them what to do. Since I know exactly what to say I quickly recover, but it's new territory for me.

I kind of like it. It's a new challenge and something I'd like to master, so I say bring it on. Does anyone else enjoy helping out with beginner classes at their school?
